Message from the Board as 2014 begins
Happy New Year to everyone! As we start 2014, I want to share with you some updates from the board of Progressive Action for the Common Good. First, at our December meeting, our board president, Maria Dickmann, presented her resignation for personal reasons. But we are pleased to announce that she and her husband welcomed their baby daughter, Sadie, on January 3. Maria has agreed to continue to serve on the board, and we look forward to her continued participation (as her time as a new mother permits). What a joyous start for the year!
As vice-president, it fell to me to take up the president’s position. I will do my best, and other board members have generously offered to take on some of the president’s duties. We hope this will provide minimal disruption to the smooth operation of the organization.
At the December meeting, the board also decided to establish a governance committee, as soon as we have enough volunteers from our membership to make it operational. We see this committee as a key part of the organization. In 2013, we also established 3 committees—finance, membership, and visibility, and all have room for additional members.
Finally, there is a strong possibility that we will expand the number of board members in 2014. New terms start in September.
As you can see, there are many opportunities for you to take a more active role in the operations of our organization. I know that everyone on the board would love to have the financial resources to hire a paid staff person, but the reality is that, at this time, we just don’t have those funds, so whatever we do must be the result of the hard work of our volunteers.
Please give serious thought to working on one of our committees and/or joining our board, and don’t hesitate to contact me or one of the other board members with your comments or questions.
Let’s make 2014 a standout year for PACG!
Best wishes,
Karen Metcalf
