Our 7th Annual Earth Day is Every Day Fair went off without a hitch at the Farmers Market in Davenport. The weather was perfect. All 20 tabling organizations were able to attend. The music was great and everyone had a wonderful time! Thanks to our sponsors, WVIK, Living Lands and Waters, and the Freight House Farmers Market for their support.

Birdie #2363 - Donate here
Chip in for a chance to win in 2026!

Once again, PACG is participating in the John Deere Birdies for Charity drive! The John Deere Classic runs from July 1st through July 5th this year.

John Deere Classic week is always exciting. Not just for the tournament, but also for what the tournament means for charities. Since 1971, the John Deere Classic has delivered over $159 million to regional charities, most of it through its innovative Birdies for Charity program. No other event on the PGA TOUR does it better - and it's the generous and hardworking nature of this area that makes it happen!

What Birdies for Charity means for PACG
When you chip in to help PACG, you could win! But PACG will be the real winner. PACG receives 100% of the donations pledged to us in this program, plus a bonus from the Birdies for Charity Bonus Fund which is guaranteed to be at least a 5% match. The 2025 Birdies for Charity match was 9%!

Donate several ways
Fill out a pledge donation (the file above). This will enter you in the contest. If you guess the correct number of birdies in the tournament, you can win a two-year lease on a new car. Submit your pledge donation by July 1st. If you send in the pledge without a donation, you will be billed by Birdies for Charity.

Click this link (or the blue button above) to donate online to PACG. Our "Birdie" is #2363.
(Birdies for Charity is aware of a compatibility issue with Internet Explorer and recommends using Chrome, Safari, or Firefox when processing your donation. If you have questions or experience difficulties, contact them at [email protected]).

Send a check. Use a pledge form (or download the 2026 Simplified Pledge Form at the top of this page). Make your check out to Birdies for Charity, annotate that it is for PACG Birdie #2363, and send it to 15623 Coaltown Rd, East Moline, IL 61244.

Send your donation through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA. Make sure that your IRA custodian makes the check out to Birdies For Charity, annotates the QCD is for PACG, Birdie #2363, and sends the check directly to 15623 Coaltown Rd, East Moline, IL 61244.

Important dates
Wednesday, July 1st: Pledges and Guesses for the Grand Prize Contest are due.
July 1st to July 5th: John Deere Classic Tournament Week

We will read The Daycare Myth: What We Get Wrong About Early Care and Education (and What We Should Do About It) by Dan Wuori for our June discussion.

Book Club will not meet in July or August (our next meeting will be Monday, September 21st).

Read more about The Daycare Myth at Goodreads:

"For a century, America’s early childhood policy has been premised on a myth. This falsehood—which dictates that child care and education are somehow separate and distinct—not only suboptimizes the most important window in all of human development but costs American taxpayers an untold fortune. It’s time to think differently. Written in plain yet provocative language by one of the field’s most respected bipartisan policy experts, The Daycare Myth makes the case for why the early years matter; why America’s longstanding early childhood policy approach sacrifices the needs of young children in favor of promoting adult employment; and why fixing the problem makes good sense, regardless of your place on the political spectrum."

Due to the rapid development of technology, there's a need for data centers that house large computer systems. Tech giants argue that such projects benefit the community by creating jobs and claim that they boost the local economy. Join us on Thursday, June 4th at 5 pm, when researcher Elizabeth VanCamp of Fem Scouts will provide us with facts on how these data centers will impact our environment and our community.

Registration is required. The meeting will be recorded and access to the recording will be provide to all registrants. Register by scanning the QR code on the flyer or clicking here.

Is AI coming for your job? After Action Report

Quad Cities Civic Conversations (QCCC)

On May 8th, Quad Citians gathered in Rock Island to listen to Alan Garfield, professor emeritus of digital art and design at the University of Dubuque, speak about how AI is affecting the work force. Alan presented data and offered insights on this topic. The audience was very engaged and asked many questions during the Q&A session that followed the talk. This was the 5th in the Quad Cities Civic Conversations series, which are offered quarterly.

Book bans are on the rise in the US-No Hate In Our States

They’re trying to narrow the worldview of young people: how book bans are on the rise in the US

Gender Equity Forum

From The Guardian

Maia Kobabe wrote Gender Queer as a tender attempt to explain non-binary identity and the journey of sexual discovery to immediate family. “I tried to make it as sensitive and thoughtful as possible, especially given that I knew that my mother would read it,” the author says. “I was trying to build bridges, trying to connect with people, trying to be understood as my full authentic self by my family and my friends and my community.

...To the authors and advocates on the frontlines, book banning is not merely a debate about social taboos but a glaring symptom of democratic backsliding. Kobabe says: “This is no longer parents trying to defend the right of what their children can read. This is now large groups trying to implement social control and attack diverse voices and increasingly attack teachers, librarians, library funding and the freedom of public education in our country at a fundamental level.
I definitely see book bans as the canary in the coalmine of the rise of fascism. Many authoritarian governments attack books, journalism, education and sources of information first because an uneducated and uninformed populace is easier to control."
