Voter Registration Day of Action
Saturday, August 10th from 11 am to 3 pm

A Message from the PACG Board of Directors
Our friends at Power in Our Numbers has adopted neighboring Davenport Precinct D34. We encourage our members and friends to attend this voter registration event to help out. We believe that everyone should vote! And PACG gets credit from Vision Leads for attending and supporting other voting efforts in Davenport.

Power in Our Numbers

Picture
Power in Our Numbers will be sponsoring a Voter Registration Day of Action throughout the
Quad Cities area on Saturday, August 10th from 11 – 3. Power In Our Numbers is a non-
partisan partnership of local organizations in the Iowa and Illinois Quad Cities. This
organization works together in partnership to maintain and enhance objectives in our Quad Cities
community that will allow our voices to matter.

The Voter Registration Day of Action will allow Quad Citians the opportunity to:
  • Find election and voter information
  • Pick up absentee ballot request forms
  • Get answers to questions concerning voting

There will be a central location at the Third Missionary Baptist Church parking lot at 222 W. 14th
St. in Davenport, Iowa with members and volunteers present from 11 – 3 providing voter
information. Members will also be visiting QC churches, beauty salons, barbershops, and local
businesses sharing informational packets and giving out information on that day about voting in
our November 5th General Election.

Because Your Voice Matters!

The purpose of the Day of Action is exactly that…bringing awareness, getting our Quad Citians
involved and ready to express themselves in selecting those individuals who will be able to assist
in making our community safe and prosperous for each and every one of us.

"The Children's Hour" film fundraiser - Of Interest to Our Comunity

The Children's Hour  film presentation

One Human Family-QCA and Ken Croken

Iowa State Representative Ken Croken invites you to join him at the second annual film
fundraiser in support of access to gender-affirming care for transgender youth.
Proceeds will benefit Iowa families forced to seek this care in Illinois as a result of the Iowa ban on these health care and related services for children suffering gender dysphoria.

The benefit will be held on Sunday, July 28 at 3 pm at The Last Picture House, located
at 325 East Second Street in downtown Davenport. The private screening will feature
the Academy Award honored 1961 film masterwork, The Children’s Hour. Directed by William Wyler and based on the Lillian Hellman play, the film stars Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine, along with James Garner, Miriam Hopkins and Fay Bainter. The Children’s Hour is a groundbreaking classic based on the true story of two teachers whose reputations and lives were destroyed by the lies of a vicious student
accusing the women of a lesbian love affair in a time when such relationships were
considered immoral.

Sadly, there are many in government who still feel this way. Governor Reynolds signed a ban into Iowa law on March 22, 2023 amid GOP claims that the use of puberty blockers and hormones is “inappropriate” and based on faulty science. Nonetheless, the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics all recommend providing transgender youth with precisely such medical care. Children will suffer unimaginable and unnecessary depression and anxiety as a result of the Republican misguided beliefs about gender identity. Indeed, some will even die by their own hands. We must do what we can now until such time as we remove from office those who would dictate personal decisions for the children of others.

There is no set ticket price to attend the July 28 event. But a “free will” offering of any
amount will be gratefully received at the door. Checks and credit card gifts payable to
“The Project of the Quad Cities” and cash are all welcome. The theater will have its
usual food and beverage concessions for sale. Seating is limited and reservations are
strongly recommended. Please reserve your seats ASAP by email (preferred) to
[email protected] or by phone/text at 563/940-8439.

All proceeds will be divided between Moline-based The Project of the Quad Cities and
Rock Island-based Clock, Inc. LGBT+ Community Center. Since 1986 The Project has
served the local LGBTQIA+ community with remarkable health care services and the
mission of Clock, Inc. is to provide a non-judgmental, safe and reliable gathering space
for queer youth and others to reduce feelings of discrimination or isolation.
Please join us on July 28!

Bridge Builder Training - After Action Report

Board of Directors
Picture
We were very pleased with the Community Connect Bridge Builders training offered by Vision Leads on Sunday, July 14th. This training was geared toward volunteers who want to interact directly with residents during our efforts to increase voter turn out. The training had great attendance from PACG as well as other organizations in our community that have adopted different precincts. The presentation was helpful and informative.

We now understand what resources will be offered to us and are excited to be working with Vision Leads. Our experienced door-knockers expressed great satisfaction with how we are being led to turn out the vote in our adopted precinct, D44 in Davenport.

If you missed the in-person training and want to work face-to-face with voters in our precinct, there will be another virtual training on Wednesday, July 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Please register here for the training. If you would like to work with voters but cannot attend that training either, please email us to let us know. You can still help in this effort!

If you have not already joined one of our Volunteer Teams, you can still do it! Sign up from this PACG blog post by contacting the respective Team Leader. You can join more than one team.

Democracy in the Balance Community Gatherings - After Action Report

Board of Directors

We were very pleased with the great turn out we had the last week in June for our three Democracy in the Balance Gatherings! If you attended, you were able to see the amount of work that went into these Zooms. And we appreciate your willingness to try to figure out a way to channel your feelings about the November election into action!

We were encouraged by the great questions that attendees asked and their desire to help out with our Adopt a Precinct efforts. If you have not already joined one of our volunteer Teams, you can still do it! Sign up from this PACG blog post by contacting the respective Team Leader. You can join more than one team.

Vision Leads will conduct Bridge Builder training for Voter Contact and Voter Education/Registration Teams on Sunday, July 14th from 3:00 to 5:30 pm at the MLK Interpretive Center in Davenport. Please register here for the training. If you would like to work with voters but cannot attend that training, please email us to let us know.

Thanks again for a fun turnout!

We love Rich Hendricks!

If you have not signed up for Alison McGaughey's Inquisitive Quad Citizen substack newsletter, we highly encourage you to do so. She's a talented writer with a great sense of humor. This week she interviewed founder of One Human Family-QCA QC Pride, Inc and QC Pride In Memory, Rich Hendricks. We at PACG know him as someone with whom we partner on many of our initiatives and actions!

Today’s column starts out with a bit of a blunder I made back in 2017 on a cold day in downtown Rock Island. That Saturday morning, I’d bundled up and gathered with other QC citizens who were upset by a certain vile person’s executive order on immigration. Read the article here.
