PACG History - Health Care Reform Forum in December, 2012
Members of the PACG Health Care Reform Forum had another busy year in 2012. The Affordable Care Act, now officially known as "Obamacare," was upheld as the law of the land by the Supreme Court, and ratified in public opinion in the November election results. Of course we celebrated, but not for long, because we had too much to do. We educated the public locally, primarily in houses of worship, about the provisions of the law in the context of a perspective of faith. We also advocated with local legislators about the two key implementation issues that need state legislative action, the Medicaid expansion and the development of the insurance exchange. We will continue this work in 2013, the last year to prepare for the key implementation deadline of 2014. Now that people know that health care reform is here to stay, we expect many more will want to understand how it will affect them, and we'll be doing our part to help. We're excited about our challenges and opportunities in the new year!
