Community Events
The following events are being offered by progressive groups in our area. We have now added various progressive calendars at the top of our Community Events page, so you will have to scroll down to find an event of interest to you. But also check out the calendars! There's a lot going on and there are many ways for you to get involved.
Cancellations of events offered by other groups (below) will be listed here if we are informed
about those cancellations in a timely manner.

Community Calendars
Because so many groups are maintaining important calendars of events in the QCA, we decided to display some of them here. We encourage you to connect with all of these organizations to continue doing work for the common good. And if your organization is considering hosting an event, please check these to be sure that you aren't planning something on a day when others have something going on. Read the PACG blog post here to learn about what the groups below are doing, and in some instances, to add your events to their calendars. Remember that the PACG Calendar of our events and actions is here.

Season for Nonviolence video series
ongoing through April 4th
The Season for Nonviolence marks the annual 64-day period between the memorial anniversary of the assassination of Mohandas K. Gandhi on January 30 and that of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4. Co-founded in 1998 by Arun and Sunanda Gandhi, along with the Association for Global New Thought, the Season teaches that every person can move the world forward in the direction of peace through daily nonviolent choices and actions.
The Franciscan Peace Center has created a series of daily one-minute video reflections on nonviolence recorded by the Sisters of St. Francis in Clinton, Iowa. These inspiring messages will be released daily throughout the Season for Nonviolence, starting on January 30th.
You can watch a sneak peek at the first reflection of the season on youtube. The theme for this day’s message is "courage."
We invite you to listen to, ponder, and share each new daily reflection. The recordings will be posted daily on the Clinton Franciscans website and will also be available periodically on Facebook. The best way to ensure you don’t miss out is to sign up and receive the daily reflections directly via email.
Please register in advance.

Sign Up to Be a Snow Angel!
City of Moline
The City of Moline has what’s called the Snow Angels program. Basically, residents that can’t shovel their own sidewalk due to age or physical ability can sign up and be paired with a volunteer.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to participate. Volunteers are assigned an address within 1 mile of their home. When it snows more than 2 inches, volunteers will get a text letting them know that it’s time to shovel their resident’s sidewalk and they have 24 hours to do this.
Last year was our first year doing this program, and it was very well received! It was a mild winter, so it really wasn’t a huge obligation and it felt really good to help others out. I took on 2 addresses for shoveling.
Follow the link to fill out an application/waiver or to get more info about the Moline Snow Angel program.
Thank you!

Please join us on Friday, December 12th at 5pm for good food and entertainment to celebrate the opening of Kinna's House of Love. Quad Cities Dancing With the Stars will open the program. There will be other surprises, a raffle, prizes and a ribbon cutting celebrating our shelter for women who have been victims of domestic violence, sex-trafficking or sexual assault. Some of them will share their survival stories.
You can use either of the QR codes on the flyer to purchase your tickets or cash payments will be accepted at the door. Please know that every ticket purchased and all donations will go toward housing more single women without children to keep them safe while they heal and work toward independence and self-sufficiency.
