Justice and Immigration:  Catholic Responses to Detention Panel Discussion

Reverend Kokjohn Endowment for Catholic Peace and Justice

A panel discussion, “Justice and Immigration: Catholic Responses to Detention,” will be held at 7 pm, Wednesday, February 20th, in the Rogalski Center Ballroom. Panelists include Kristy Nabhan-Warren; Elizabeth Kahl, Figge Fellow in Catholic Studies, University of Iowa; Yolanda Rivera, Attorney; and Kent Ferris and Esmeralda Guerrero, Social Action and Catholic Charities, Diocese of Davenport. The event, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Rev. Kokjohn Endowment for Catholic Peace and Justice.

Climate Change Presentation - Thursday, February 21st, 5:00 - 6:00 pm

Partners of Scott County Watersheds is offering a Climate Change presentation by Ray Wolf at the Fairmont Library. Mr. Wolf will discuss current data on climate change with past and future trends in precipitation in Eastern Iowa, and within the context of implications for water management.

Ray Wolf is the Science and Operations Officer for NOAA National Weather Service (NWS) in Davenport, Iowa. He is responsible for managing operations, staff training, and local research.

Come to express concern to your legislators in this question and answer session.  Social is from 10:00 to 10:30 am. The Forum starts at 10:30 am and lasts until noon. 

Alternative Energy Conference - Tuesday, March 5th 9:00 am

This conference is designed for municipalities and communities wanting to expand their alternative energy programs. The program is free, sponsored by the Mark Schwiebert Fund for Environmental Studies. Please forward this information to mayors, aldermen, city administrators, public works directors in your community and encourage them to attend, although the general public is welcome as well. Free lunch with advanced registration.

Charlie King and Annie Patterson to Perform - Friday, March 15, 7:00 pm

Charlie King will return to Rock Island Friday, March 15th, for a concert at this new location,  the ARTery.  Accomplished performer Annie Patterson, another veteran of traditional folk music, will join him.  The program will begin at 7 pm in this beautiful, intimate downtown setting, surrounded by local art.  

Come to the March 15th concert for some joyful, hopeful songs, and at the same time support some community organizations which are working to meet the needs of vulnerable people served by
Palomares Center for Social Justice, Quad City League of Native Americans, and Centro Maya Project.
