Project Labor Agreements Rally

3/19/2011

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Stand with us on Saturday and make your voices heard!

In recent weeks, hundreds of thousands of union members and their community have rallied in Madison, Wisconsin and dozens of other cities across the nation to express support for public workers, education, public services and to protect all workers’ rights to collective bargaining. Make no mistake, what is happening in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa and many other states is not about balancing budgets — the economic crisis was caused by Wall Street greed — not middle class worker’s wages.

Last month, Iowa Governor Branstad’s very first act after being sworn in as Governor was to revoke Project Labor Agreements — a severe blow to both the Building Trades and to the taxpayers’ rights to fair, safe contracts on public projects. His next move was to reduce voting rights. Then, in the Iowa House last week, they passed HF 525 — a Wisconsin-style bill that would gut collective bargaining rights for public workers. They’ve also proposed legislation that would cut education funding in order to give huge tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy.

We’ll see you Saturday, March 19, 2011
at VanderVeer Park, Davenport, Iowa
from 11:00—11:30 a.m.

We’ll Assemble at 11:30 we’ll march around VanderVeer Park at 12:30. There will be a Rally with Keynote Speakers.

Let’s stand together to protect collectively bargaining rights and protect the Middle Class!

Creative Leaders Group - Reclaiming the Constitution

CREATIVE LEADERS

Moderator: Steve Drucker

Reclaiming The Constitution and Other Early Documents:
Folks, I need your help beating the bushes to find some nearby Constitutional scholars who are not polluted by hidden agendas. Until we progressives educate ourselves on these documents, we are at the mercy of the those who quote, misquote, misinterpret and otherwise use these documents to brainwash the public into a sense of misguided “patriotism”.

March is half over, and we will be April Fools if we go into another season of media hogwash without the knowledge we can use to counteract the distortions.

Please notify me of any leads you have on people, books, videos we can use for a pacg educational event. The origins of the U.S. are great and messy and confusing.  Without solid understanding, we are easily manipulated.  Let’s come together and reclaim the principles of liberty.

Reclaiming Lincoln:
I just spent a couple days, and evenings! with Abraham Lincoln in Springfield, again.  The powerful, humble spirit of this great man is just waiting to be reclaimed by the progressive movement. Conservatives use his name to raise money at annual “Lincoln dinners” but their values are 180 degrees from his.

I spoke to a leading Lincoln scholar and got more names to contact (just in case we can’t get Doris Kearns Goodwin, author of Team of Rivals, to come to the QCs.)  I also took a Lincoln “ghost walk” with a guy who gives Lincoln tours of Springfield and will work with a bus agency to provide a two-day trip to Springfield.

Folks, would you like to plug yourselves into a major power source?  Let me know which month(s) would work best for you to be part of a field trip to the city saturated with Lincoln energy.  If we go before September, we can experience the “Team of Rivals” exhibit at the Lincoln Museum – I just saw it and it’s worth seeing again.

Abraham Lincoln “belongs to the ages” and the age is NOW.  What  else would you like to learn, create, explore and celebrate about Lincoln?  What would you like to do building up to his birthday, Feb. 12, in 2012???

Call me, email me, stop me on the street! Steve Drucker at 309.781.8004

John Perkins on Globalization

JOHN PERKINS ON GLOBALIZATION

Please join us for this film as part of the Prince of Peace Pax Christi Series on Tuesday, March 1, at The Canticle, home of the Sisters of St. Francis, 841-13th Ave. No., Clinton, beginning at 6:30 pm.

It is free and open to the public.

John Perkins spent much of his professional life being an “economic hit man” who persuaded Third World countries to take on large-scale public works projects funded by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which actually only created crippling debt for those countries, effectively turning them into American client states. The film conversation with Perkins about globalization and inequality around the world and the images of our fellow human beings who are suffering under the burden of national debt and privatization are a call to action.
