Connection with Intersectional Resources in Our Community
FREE TO ATTEND! RAFFLE & DOOR PRIZES!

Our community is FILLED with resources -- but sometimes, we haven't yet had a chance to discover them all, because we're focused on what we already know.

The Intersectional Resource Fair is an unprecedented chance to learn, learn, learn about nonprofits, groups and businesses that serve marginalized identities and strive to be intersectional.

Come by for a few minutes, or stay for a couple of hours. Whatever it takes for you to partake of information from throughout the Quad Cities area and beyond about the resources available to you in more than a dozen different areas of interest.

Better yet, you'll receive door prizes just for showing up. And you'll win raffle tickets just for visiting the tables on hand, plus more raffle tickets if you complete some fun games.

Come intersect with us! This opportunity starts at 10:30 a.m. Sat., Oct. 7, and continues only until 1 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Find the support you need in:
-Housing
-Child care
-Education
-Employment
-Social justice
-Health care
-Animal welfare
-Substance use
-Spirituality

Support for Transgender rights in Iowa - No Hate In Our States

Transgender in Iowa - Know your rights!

ACLU Iowa
Picture
While there is still much work to be done, Iowa law protects the fundamental right of transgender people for respect, dignity, and equal treatment.

Unlike some states, Iowa has protections for transgender people written into its law. Chapter 216 of the Iowa Code is known as the Iowa Civil Rights Act (ICRA) of 1965. ICRA provides protection against various forms of discrimination on the basis of specific individual traits or characteristics. Among other things, ICRA prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, which were added as protected characteristics in 2007.

ICRA defines "gender identity" as "a gender-related identity of a person, regardless of the person’s assigned sex at birth." ICRA also established the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, the state agency that receives and investigates complaints about ICRA violations. There may be local civil rights and human rights ordinances in your community that provide additional protections.

Transgender people are entitled to equal treatment in every aspect of employment.
Read more here, including a link to a downloadable flyer about these issues.

And, during these unfortunate times of injustice for our LGBTQ+ friends, it’s more imporant than ever to support organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Donate to ACLU Iowa here.

Register now for the 11th Annual Picnic & Pie Auction! Update
Sunday, September 17th from noon to 3:00 pm

Registration is open! We continue with our plans for one of our most popular events of the year - our Annual Picnic and Pie Auction! It's Sunday, September 17th from noon to 3:00 pm at the Lagoon Shelter at Middle Park in Bettendorf. This shelter is on the south side of the park on Parkway Drive which is off 18th Street. The map link above shows a red pin in the exact location.

Remember, you must register for this event here so that we know how much food to purchase.

Taste of Ethiopia will once again be catering this event. Tickets are $15 per person or $30 for a family. Children under 12 eat free. Vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available! And, as usual, picnickers who bring a homemade pie eat free! Our pie auction is our signature event.

We ask that you bring your own dish ware (plate, bowl, cup, silverware and napkins) if possible so that we can practice good environmental stewardship. (Of course we will have these available but as an organization we are moving towards having events without providing dishes that end up in a land fill.)

In addition, we need volunteers to help with all of the preparation involved. Working on the Picnic Committee is a great way to get more involved with PACG and to make new friends. Please contact our Office Manager, Maggie Davis. We hope to see you there.

Attempt to remove San Diego Library’s LGBTQ books backfires

Two San Diego residents checked out nearly every single book in their library’s Pride Month display, claiming that such materials shouldn’t be available to children.

Across the nation, conservative groups have pushed to ban books that discuss LGBTQ issues from libraries and schools, often arguing that they are pornographic or obscene merely because they depict LGBTQ identity.

This attempt to stoke culture-war flames in San Diego backfired, according to The New York Times, ending with an outpouring of community support for the library in the form of increased monetary and book donations.

As soon as The San Diego Union-Tribune reported on the protest, new copies of the checked-out books began to arrive at the library. About 180 people, mostly from San Diego, donated $15,000 to the city’s public library system. The funds, which the city will match, will go toward LGBTQ materials and programming, including drag queen story hours.

Furthermore, the books were recently returned after the patrons who checked them out realized their scheme had backfired — this is not the future that conservatives wanted.
