Join us at the German American Heritage Center for a meal and help us celebrate another year of PACG's activism!

We will present the annual Dick Fallow Endowment for Social Justice award to a worthy, local recipient (or two).

The main course will be catered, with vegan and gluten-free options. Please bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share.

Although this event is free, we need you to register so we can coordinate with our caterer. Talk to your friends, register them and bring them along!

Optional Holiday Gift: This year we are once again supporting Quad Cities Alliance for Immigrants and Refugees (QCAIR). Please bring a wrapped toy for a child 6 months to 12 years of age. Securely label your gift with the age (and gender, if appropriate) of the child.

If you’re one of our many new members this year, come find out how much fun we progressives have during the holiday season!

There is extra parking available in the lot just east of the museum, where the YMCA used to be.

Please register here.

Quad Cities Interfaith Award justified!

PACG Board of Directors and Holiday Party Committee

As you may know, Quad Cities Interfaith (QCI) was a recipient of the Dick Fallow Fund for Social Justice at our PACG Holiday Party in December. This year, a $1,500 grant was awarded to Quad Cities Interfaith, a coalition of congregations and community groups that have come together to address issues such as civil rights, immigration, social justice and housing in the greater Iowa and Illinois Quad Cities. Of particular interest this year was QCI's partnership with the Quad Cities Housing Cluster to form the Quad Cities Tenant Alliance (QCTA).  Since 2021, QCTA has been actively helping residents living in substandard housing to know their rights, advocate for them with landlords and local politicians and register them to vote.

Here is a recent update from QCI about QCTA: We got HUD!

88 supporters flooded the inboxes of H.U.D. representatives, and it worked: we got HUD! On Monday, November 27th, the regional Director for the Kansas City Hub Tanya Burgin, and the Iowa and Illinois Field Directors Steven Eggleston and Kimberly Dannae visited Davenport to meet with Quad Cities Interfaith. A technical issues with our email system prevented us from updating you sooner, but we are eager to celebrate with our base!

We set the agenda: safe, decent, and affordable housing for all Quad Citians. Leslie Kilgannon of the Housing Council and Dennis Platt of the Quad Cities Tenant Alliance presented research on the housing crisis and Ronda Wilson, a directly affected tenant, shared her story. Thank you to the countless community members who advised and contributed to this presentation--we could not have done it without you! Click here to view the slideshow.

This meeting marks the beginning of a fruitful partnership with HUD. Let's celebrate the WINS! Because of our community organizing,

1. HUD is beginning a compliance review of Davenport. We look forward to hearing the results of that review.
2. HUD has contacted the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) based on our Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) findings
3. HUD has promised to educate our local elected officials on funding sources and creative solutions to promote safe decent and affordable housing. We are especially interested in the Green and Resilient Retrofit Program, nonprofit receiverships, Community Land Trusts, and employer-assisted housing.

Please consider attending our next Quad Cities Tenant Alliance meeting: Tuesday December 19th at 6pm at St. Anthony's Grace Center 130 W 5th St., Davenport. Let's build a Quad Cities were we all can live. Visit qctenantalliance.org to learn more!

Honoring the Legacy of Dick Fallow

A Message from the Board

This article, written by the Quad Cities Community Foundation, is a wonderful testament to the Dick Fallow Endowment for Social Justice and to PACG. Both PACG co-founder and Board member, Alta Price, and our current president, Allison Ambrose are quoted about these efforts:

When Quad Cities–area nonprofit Progressive Action for the Common Good (PACG) decided to honor the legacy of community activist Dick Fallow after his death in 2013, opening a memorial fund at the Quad Cities Community Foundation was a natural choice. Not only would PACG be able to set up a designated endowment fund to distribute yearly grants to local progressive causes, but it could also invest those assets in the Community Foundation’s Socially Responsive Pool.

“It’s what Dick would have wanted,” said Alta Price, one of PACG’s co-founders and a member of the nonprofit’s board. On top of a long and successful career fighting for workers’ rights, Fallow was an ardent advocate for democracy, peace, and the environment. In his later years, he served on PACG’s board, helping to further the organization’s mission of driving awareness and advocacy around healthcare reform, climate change, civil rights, and other issues its members are passionate about.

“There are different ways you can influence your community,” said Price. “You can speak out, you can educate, you can lobby for legislation, you can vote. You can effect change with how you use your money when you’re shopping. But you can also invest in ways that support things you support and don’t support things you’re against. It just makes sense.”

Thank you to the Quad Cities Community Foundation for this writeup! Read the entire article here.

PACG Holiday Party Was A Great Success!  - After Action Report
Friday, December 6th at 5:30 pm

German American Heritage Center
712 W 2nd St, Davenport

Thank you to all of the seventy plus people who attended PACG's Annual Holiday Party. We had a great group of people sharing great conversation and fantastic food provided by Maria Lopez.

We also presented the Dick Fallow Social Justice Endowment Grant to Project Renew, an extremely worthy local organization that Dick would have loved.  We feel very fortunate to be part of such a fine community.

There are lots more photographs of the event on PACG's Facebook page: facebook.com/PACG-holidayimages.

Thanks again to the PACG Holiday Party Committee - especially to Ann McCluskey - for all the hard work!

Dick Fallow Endowment for Social Justice Applications Are Being Accepted!
Now through October 16th!

The Dick Fallow Endowment for Social Justice is accepting applications for its annual grant period. Applications will be accepted between September 16th, 2018, and October 16th, 2018.

The Dick Fallow Endowment for Social Justice was established in 2013 to carry on the life work of Richard E. Fallow who fought for Labor and Economic Justice, Environmental Sustainability, and Democracy and Human Rights. Each year the Endowment will issue a grant in one of these categories.

The endowment is administered by the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend and managed by Progressive Action for the Common Good. Applicants can download materials to apply for the grant here or on the Dick Fallow Endowment for Social Justice Facebook page at www.facebook.com/FallowFund. You may also send an email to [email protected] to request application materials.

Criteria for grant applicants:
  • Their work must serve the Quad Cities and immediate surrounding areas.
  • It must be an organization and not an individual.
  • It must fit under one of the three categories of serving Labor/Economic Justice, Environmental Sustainability, and Democracy/Human Rights.
  • With some exceptions, the organization has to be locally chartered and not part of a national organization with access to resources not available to smaller, local organizations.
  • The grant will not be available to partisan organizations.

Once all grant applications are received, beginning October 26th, 2018, a grant selection committee will evaluate all applications and make their decision no later than November 14th. Recipients of the 2018 award will be announced at the Progressive Action for the Common Good Annual Holiday Party on December 6, 2018.

Past grant recipients include Guardians of the Prairie and Forest; Palomares Social Justice Center of Moline, Illinois; the Safer Foundation of the Quad Cities; and Center for Workers Justice of Eastern Iowa.

PACG Picnic Committee
Longview Park, 1300 17th Street, Rock Island

Great music created by Chris Dunn filled the air as around 90 people gathered for our 5th Annual PACG Picnic this year at Longview Park in Rock Island.  We enjoyed the delicious pulled pork, potato salad, baked beans and other picnic fare catered by Fresh Deli, who also contributed one of several gift certificates won by various attendees during the raffle drawings.

Early on, PACG President, Alta Price, introduced Senator Rob Hogg, who said a few words about something important to us all:  Climate Change.

Later, Renee Conklin and Tracey Leone talked briefly about the Dick Fallow Endowment for Social Justice and how to apply for the annual grant that will be awarded to a deserving, local organization later this year.

And once again, the Annual Pie Auction featured a wide variety of delicious homemade pies donated by progressive volunteers!

Everybody seemed to have a good time visiting and catching up on things - and there was a lot to catch up on this year!  If you were there, thanks for coming!  If you weren't able to make it this year, we look forward to seeing you at our sixth annual picnic in 2018 - or maybe even sooner at our Holiday Party on Thursday, December 7th, when the Dick Fallow Social Justice Grant recipient will be announced.  Meanwhile, enjoy these beautiful summer days as they turn into fall.  My how time flies!
