Call and email your US legislators about DOGE - Action Alert

League of Women Voters of Iowa

Members of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are unelected, unvetted individuals who have been given control of crucial government systems and allowed access to classified information, including the personal information of millions of Americans via access to Social Security numbers and tax records. They are attempting to dictate federal spending without the legal authority to do so and without oversight.

This attack on our democracy encourages distrust in government operations and leaders. Legislators must fulfill their oversight duties and ethical responsibilities to protect and serve Americans and our democracy.

Power in Our Numbers Coalition

Power in Our Numbers, a coalition group that is also working with Vision Leads to increase voting in Scott County, is holding a Peoples Forum Saturday, October 12th at the Eastern Avenue Branch of the Davenport Public Library. Congressional District 1 discussion begins at 12:30 and Scott County Supervisors at 1:30.

The Power in Our Numbers coalition includes the Davenport NAACP, LULAC, and the American Association of University Women.

Take this opportunity to learn more about Congressional and Board of Supervisor candidates up for election.

Monday, January 15th at 6 pm (arrive early)

Varied locations

Scott County Democratic Party: There is only one caucus location, North High School, 626 W 53rd St, Davenport. You will not vote for candidates. There will be a display in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. If you want to bring memorabilia to add to that display, see the flyer below.

Scott County Republican Party: Find your caucus location at this website. You can also download the Republican caucus locations in the attached flyer at the end of this blog post. Since you will be voting, bring photo ID and know your precinct.

For February we will read and discuss Prequel: An American Fight Against Fascism by Rachel Maddow. I listened to Rachel Maddow's podcast Ultra which covers similar material. I had no idea this had even happened in our country. It is very relevant to current political events!
