Check that your ballot has been counted - What You Can Do Now

Has your mail-in ballot been counted?
Tuesday, November 5th - General Election Day

PACG's Adopt a Precinct Initiative

With the 2024 General Election under way, many voters are unable to make it to their polling places and have to send in their mail-in absentee ballots. Do you know if yours arrived? Was it counted? There may be concerns about whether the mail-in ballots will reach the auditor's office. Check the status of your mail-in ballot in any of the 50 states through this link.

National Voter Registration Day UPDATE
September 17, 2024

Adopt a Precinct Committee
Picture

UPDATE: We have learned from Vision Leads, our Adopt a Precinct partner, that almost 40% of voters in Iowa have been removed from voting rolls. Check your registration! And do NOT rely on the US Postal Service to get any voter registration or ballot to the auditor's office on time (read the article linked below). The most reliable way to vote is in person and early. Contact one of our PACG Voter Outreach experts to assist you.

Election officials warn that widespread problems with the US mail system could disrupt voting : State and local election officials from across the country on Wednesday warned that problems with the nation’s mail delivery system threaten to disenfranchise voters in the upcoming presidential election, telling the head of the U.S. Postal Service that it hasn’t fixed persistent deficiencies.

Voter Registration/Education -
Allison Ambrose
Voter Contact - Alta Price

Tuesday, September 17th is National Voter Registration Day! It is also seven weeks before the election on November 5th! One of the most important things you can do at this point is to be sure that you and your family and friends are registered to vote in your state. Since we have adopted a Davenport, Iowa precinct as part of our efforts to get out the vote, we want to be sure that our Iowa community has checked to be sure that they are still registered to vote. Your county auditor may have removed you from the voter list without your knowledge. If you can't scan a QR code like the one here, go to this link to check for your Iowa voting status. For those in other areas, you can check your voter registration here. Don't wait until election day to find out!

Iowa ACLU Door-Knock Day of Action - Update
Saturday, May 18th at 1 pm

Private residence in Bettendorf
Our PACG activists, especially those interested in gender equity, are invited to participate in this statewide Door-Knock Day of Action on May 18 sponsored by the Iowa ACLU. This action is to mobilize voters to stand for reproductive freedom. We will be covering parts of Bettendorf.

Please watch the Iowa ACLU online video to complete the training for this door-knocking action. The recorded training link is here (the passcode is dn=$Mi8Y).

You will need to contact me for the address to pick up your materials. Click on my name below and I will email you the address.

Alta Price

From Becca Eastwood, Advocacy Campaign Manager, Iowa ACLU:

In a devastating vote last July, the Iowa state legislature passed a near total abortion ban.

In less than two months, the Iowa Supreme Court will decide the future of that ban.

While we can’t control the outcome of the case, we can make sure we are mobilizing as many Iowans as possible to stand for reproductive freedom.

Join us on Saturday, May 18 to hit the doors in Bettendorf and talk to our fellow Iowans directly!

Register for Door-Knock Day of Action on May 18

The actions that WE take mean the difference between an Iowa where we make our own decisions about our bodies & futures or one where politicians make them for us.

Personal conversations with our fellow Iowans are the most effective way to build the power we need. So let’s hit the doorsteps!

Sign up today to join ACLU volunteers in Bettendorf for this statewide action!

We provide:
  • Comprehensive training
  • Script & all materials
  • List of addresses (these will all be folks we believe are open to this issue)

You provide:
  • 1.5-2 hours of your time
  • Maybe a friend to bring with you!

Iowa Public Measure 1 on November ballot gets a thumbs down - A Message from the Board

Understanding Iowa Public Measure 1 - the Iowa Gun Amendment

PACG Board of Directors, AAUW, Franciscan Peace Center and others

The proposed amendment to the Iowa Constitution regarding guns is on the ballot November 8th. We are concerned that the wording is confusing and encourage those who are in favor of sensible gun regulations to vote NO to on this measure.

We have previously had submissions to this Progressive Action Update discussing this reckless proposal. You can read more about the educational opportunities members of our extended communities presented regarding this issue here and here.

Our friends the Sisters of St. Francis recently shared this information with us:

Understanding the Iowa Gun Amendment
Iowans are voting on a constitutional amendment in the November 8 election, referred to as "Public Measure 1" on the ballot. If you missed the October 6 webinar featuring guest speakers: Art Roche, Acting Chair, Iowans for Gun Safety; Tom Chapman, Executive Director of the Iowa Catholic Conference; and Dr. Tom Brezenski, Ph.D. Political Science and Public Policy, it is now available to view as a recording.

You may view this important video here.

If you are in favor of common sense gun regulations, VOTE NO ON PUBLIC MEASURE 1 in Iowa on November 8th.
