CONGRESSMAN  BRALEY  HOLDS BUDGET  TOWN  HALL

Congressman Braley invites all Iowans to create own balanced budget, and reduce the deficit during the week of April 25th.

The town halls will be fully interactive and attendants will be able to decide how to balance the budget and reduce the deficit.

“It’s long past due time for a serious, responsible conversation about our fiscal future – and that’s why I want to bring the budget discussion directly to my constituents,” said Rep. Braley. “These town halls will give Iowans an opportunity to see first-hand how the budget process works in Congress. Together, we can find the best ways to balance the budget and reduce our deficit. I look forward to hearing from my constituents and discussing these important issues with them.”

Attendants can RSVP on Rep. Braley’s website at: http://go.usa.gov/TQa

Moderator: Rich Hendricks

From Cathy Bolkcom:

I am chairing events to commemorate 40 years of service of HELP Legal Assistancein Scott County. I served as a paralegal at Legal Aid in the 1970’s and it propelled me into community organizing.

Please note the date of April 8. We will be having a day long Equal Access to Justice Summit at St. Ambrose University’s Rogalski Center.  The purpose of the Summit in to educate the public, students and lawyers about poverty law and social  justice issues.  There will be CLE courses for lawyers, CEU’s for social workers and a public track of workshops  of interest to all citizens who care about social justice.

There will be workshops on the Innocence Project with Brain Farrell, Predatory Lendingwith Sen. Joe Bolkcom, Immigration with Father David Vasquez (of the Postville raids) and immigration attorney Karla Steele, a panel onDomestic Violence and a plenary session on Maintaining an Independent Judiciary with Supreme Court Justices and US District Court Judge Pratt.

Judge Pratt will give a luncheon keynote on “Equal Access to Justice” and we will finish the day with a wine and hors’ d’oeuvres reception with longtime legal aid advocate Congressman Bruce Braley.

Lunch will be $10.  Let me know if you would like to pre-register.  More information to follow.  It promises to be a very exciting day. Email me at cbarts4@aol.com
