Indivisible QC #GiveHealthy Food Drive

Picture
Indivisible QC

To all Indivisibles and the QC progressive community:

Collaborating with 50501 and Resisters Unite, today we launch our Digital Food Drive. In partnership with the River Bend Food Bank, Indivisible QC and its sibling organizations call on their networks to give generously to the Food Bank to purchase and distribute healthy food. The Drive will last until January 5, 2026.

Please use the QR Code above or visit our Food Drive Page.

Because the Food Bank procures generous terms for volume purchases of food, your monetary donations may go further than contributing items through direct food drives.

Read more about the food drive at this PACG blog post.

Comment on repeal of Roadless Rule

The Roadless Rule

Are you aware that the current administration is attempting to revoke the Roadless Rule? This law was established in 2001 during the Bush administration by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to protect National Forest System lands. (It has an interesting and political history that is explained here.) It bans road construction and timber harvesting in roadless areas to preserve them from development.

Per Forest Service Employees for Environmental Ethics (FSEEE):

Rescinding the Roadless Rule would not only increase road construction, but would also support clear-cutting old-growth forests and increase pollution from mineral extraction. According to the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable, national forests and other public lands provide the foundation for a $1.2 trillion per year industry that would be harmed by the these industrial activities.

There is currently a period of public comment. Go to Regulations.gov and enter FS-2025-0001 (or click here) and voice your opinion.

This comment period closes on 9/19 but there will be another opportunity in March, assuming this draft passes. You can describe how these roadless areas have benefited you in terms of recreation and hunting, how they reduce the potential for wildfires and help keep our water clean, and how they provide a contiguous area for animal habitat.

Western Illinois University - Quad Cities
Riverfront Hall Room 103
3300 River Drive
Moline, IL (map)

Quad Cities Civic Conversations
Picture
The program will focus on the importance of the Rule of Law: current threats to democratic government in the United States, including the rise of authoritarianism, polarization, the spread of disinformation, electoral corruption, advocacy of violence toward political adversaries, and the politicization of independent institutions. It will also explore democracy's defense against these threats through efforts to uphold the rule of law, promote transparency and accountability, protect free and fair elections, counter disinformation and violence, and reinforce safeguards of democratic institutions.

Presenter, Sally Frank, is a Professor of Law at Drake University, primarily in the legal clinic with students representing clients in family law, domestic abuse, and guardianship cases. She also teaches seminars in Women and the Law, Women in the Hebrew Scriptures, and is an activist on many peace, civil rights and civil liberties issues.

Everyone is welcome. Thanks to an anonymous donor, a box-style lunch will be available at no charge to the first fifty pre-registered attendees on a "first come, first served" basis.

Please RSVP. Individual registration by name and email address are necessary for each attendee.

Questions regarding food should be addressed to [email protected] at least three days prior to the event.

The Rock Island West End Revitalization (WER) initiative has made significant strides to grow this historical neighborhood. Improvements made to Rauch Family Park and Franklin Field made these sites more user friendly to the community. Avery Pearl, WER Coordinator will lead us on a tour of these areas.

The tour will begin from the Martin Luther King Center Parking Lot. We will be driving to some of the sites. Bring a friend.

Birdie #2363 - Donate Here
Chip in for a chance to win in 2025!

Once again, this year PACG is participating in the John Deere Birdies for Charity drive! The John Deere Classic runs from June 30th through July 6th this year. Here is some information from the Birdies for Charity website about what this means for us:

When you chip in to help area charities, you could win! But your favorite charity will be the real winner. That’s because participating charities receive 100% of the donations pledged to them in this program, plus a bonus from the Birdies for Charity Bonus Fund which is a guaranteed 5% match.

John Deere Classic week is always exciting. Not just for the tournament, but also for what the tournament means for charities. Since 1971, the John Deere Classic has delivered over $159 million to regional charities, most of it through its innovative Birdies for Charity program. No other event on the PGA TOUR does it better - and it's the generous and hardworking nature of this area that makes it happen!

Progressive Action Update readers, you can win a two-year lease on a new car by submitting your pledge donation by June 27th!

And whatever you give to PACG through Birdies for Charity increases your donation by 5% through their generous matching offer.

Click this link (or the button above) to donate online to PACG! Our "Bird" is #2363.
(Birdies for Charity is aware of a compatibility issue with Internet Explorer and recommends using Chrome, Safari, or Firefox when processing your donation. If you have questions or experience difficulties, contact them at [email protected]).

If you want to send a check, use a pledge form (or download the 2024 Simplified Pledge Form at the top of this page). Make your check out to Birdies for Charity and send it to 15623 Coaltown Rd, East Moline, IL 61244. Make sure to fill in Progressive Action for the Common Good as the Charity Solicited For and 2363 as the Bird Number.

Important dates:
Friday, June 27th: Pledges and Guesses for the Grand Prize Contest are due.
June 30th through July 6th: John Deere Classic Tournament Week

Pride Month 2025 in the Quad Cities

Gender Equity Forum
Picture
As usual, our friends at Clock, Inc are doing great work listing various Pride events in the Quad Cities. This link to their website will continue to be updated. As of now they begin on May 28th with the acceptance of the City of Davenport's Pride Proclamation.

There are also a lot of Community Calendars that PACG links to on our website. Check those for other activities.

Clock, Inc was one of the recipients of the Dick Fallow Endowment for Social Justice that we presented at our Annual Holiday Party in December of 2025. Their work is important for our LGBTQ+ community.

Visit their website here and sign up for their newsletter at the bottom of the page.
