Whereas the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change from the United Nations has recommended reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050;
Whereas emissions in the US (and other wealthy developed countries) need to decrease at roughly 10% per year, while developing countries have access to the carbon budget, which would allow a more just transition for developing countries;
Whereas hundreds of environmental and agricultural regulations have been scrapped by the current administration endangering the health of U.S. citizens; now, therefore, be it
Resolved that the US must commit to declaring a climate crisis within the first 30 days of the new administration, commit to reaching the aforementioned emission goals and timelines, commit to a just transition to renewable energy to allow a reasonable carbon budget for developing countries, and commit to establishing even stronger environmental regulations to protect the health of every citizen by guaranteeing clean water, clean air, and healthy agricultural/food policies.
