Keynote speaker is Frank Meeink of "Life After Hate." Frank is a former white supremacist skinhead gang member who after a three-year prison stint, left that life and now works on the side of tolerance, diversity and mutual understanding. He is also the author of "Harmony Through Hockey." BREAKOUT SESSIONS (people will be able to attend 3 of the 5 sessions offered): “Tools to Organize and Combat Hate Groups,“ presented by Shay DeGolier, Community Outreach Organizer, Southern Poverty Law Center.
This session gives participants the tools needed to recognize, organize and effectively counter hate group actions and propaganda. “Getting to Know Your Neighbor,” presented by Rev. Rich Hendricks, Metro Community Church of the Quad Cities, Davenport and Dr. Lisa Killinger, Muslim Community of the Quad Cities, Bettendorf. This session will use hands-on participation exercises to help people learn how to reach out to, and establish meaningful relationships with, people from diverse backgrounds.
