PACG Social Justice Movie Night
Thursday, February 23, 6:30 pm
Davenport West High School
3505 W. Locust Street, Davenport, Iowa
Feeling fearful and maybe powerless or helpless in 2017 as social and environmental justice appears under siege? You’re not alone! People in hundreds of communities across the U.S. are successfully standing up for our rights.
Please join us on February 23rd to view We The People 2.0, a visual essay from the Community Legal Environmental Defense Fund, about powerful threats to our democracy in the United States. The film utilizes both original footage as well as found footage to describe a profound change in thinking at the grassroots level. The story unfolds through the eyes of rural people who have faced decades of toxic dumping, drilling, and mining in their communities. We learn with them that the reason why, in spite of all their efforts, they “get what they don’t want, again and again,” is because corporate America has become a powerful oligarchy despite propaganda that says we live in the “best democracy in the world.”
Come see what happens as these folks challenge the powers that be in an effort to save themselves and the environment. Leila Conners, the Film Director of We The People 2.0 will join us for a Skype conversation after the movie!
This PACG Social Justice Movie Night is in collaboration with the Ecology Club of Davenport’s West High School
